Last night I had a real cup of coffee. Mmmmm..... Guess where from.... Dunkin' Donuts. Yep, Dunkin' Donuts is real coffee here. The shops are really nice too. It's a strange oddity. A large cup of joe was 3500 won.
So wait, lets take about the won. If I talk in won odds are most people will either get confused or run out to xe to convert the currency. So I'm simple it down. 1000w is a lot like a dollar. We have $1 stores, south korea has 1000w stores. So, if I say something is 13,000w, that's like saying I spent 13 dollars local money. So that's easy to understand. In exchange rates, it gets complicated and the value of the won is steadily shifting (usually badly). However, the exchange rate only matter when we're sending loot home. The money we earn and spend here is as happy as normal. Dow below 7,000?! Wow. Economy sucks everywhere.
We had Lotteria last night. It's a fast food chain as best I can gather. I had a Giant Double Set. That's a large burger, kind of big mac like, fries, and a pepsi. Wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either. Now I'm on a quest to find a burger and a beer. Somewhere out there is a bar that will serve me a damned good bar burger ala Dan's Tavern in Saline or RPM's in Ida even. I will find it. Just the burger won't do. I want the burger and the beer. Will find. There's probably something around here. There's lots of bars. Usually they're on the second floor. You have to enter the building and climb up to the bar. I can't tell if they have burgers due to my lack of Korean. I think our best bet may be Songtan.
Songtan is two train stops away. It's where the Osan Air Force Base is. I'm betting burger and beer can be had. I know there's a black market there. We don't really need black market goods through. At least not right now. Maybe we'll go this weekend.
My wonderful co-teacher Il-kyu has been going out of his way to hook us up. He bought me a birthday cake. He made sure our place has all the items to which we are entitled via our contract. When we arrived, there was no couch, a tiny junky desk (which was actually fine for the laptop), and a broken tv. Most everything else was fine and doesn't require mentioning. That Saturday afternoon, Il-kyu had a couch delivered and it was amazingly nice. Last night, our desk was delivered. It's way over the top. It's huge and really nice. So, we have yet to get the tv. I'm hoping today or tomorrow. I'm also hoping that Il-kyu's high standards hold and we get a nice huge flat one :D They're not too expensive here. 800,000w buys like a flat 42 inch.
Well, I should probably start getting ready for work. I have to leave in an hour and there's powdered coffee to drink....
